Interested natural persons or legal entities are encouraged to apply for membership with NCAC which offers four different types of memberships:
Arbitrator Members refer to local and foreign individuals (natural persons) who fulfilled the requirements of being an arbitrator and is a registered Arbitrator Member of NCAC.
The first batch of Arbitrator Members was selected by the Initial Arbitrator Selection Committee on 26 April 2010. To ensure their professional efficiency and competency, the initial arbitrators went through a series of training courses on arbitration skills and commercial law which were organized by the International Financial Corporation (IFC, a World Bank Group) in collaboration with the Singapore Institute of Arbitrations (SIArb). After completing two years of training, 44 successful trainees were registered as arbitrators on NCAC’s list.
There are currently more than 60 arbitrators of various nationalities on the NCAC list. The qualifying criteria for member registration are:
Subject to the approval of the General Assembly, the Executive Board may determine additional qualifying criteria if deemed appropriate and beneficial to NCAC. To ensure the integrity and the impartiality of the Centre, the applicant must not be an official or hold any title or position within the hierarchy of the executive, legislative or judiciary branches.
Legal Entity Members refer to the business associations or chambers of commerce which are registered as Legal Entity Members of NCAC. Each Legal Entity Member shall appoint one natural person to serve as its representative, to act in the name of the respective Legal Entity Member in all matters related to NCAC, including representing the Legal Entity in the Executive Board or any committee, if appointed therein. For the avoidance of doubt, such representative shall not be identified as a member of NCAC but as an individual. The qualifying criteria for member registration are:
Individual Associate Members refer to natural persons who have interest in Commercial Arbitration matter but have yet to qualify to be an Arbitrator or those who are willing to learn more about NCAC. The qualifying criteria for member registration are:
The Individual Associate Members shall receive information distributed by NCAC, attend events organized by NCAC, and have the right to attend trainings organized by NCAC at a preferential rate as may be determined by the Executive Board from time to time. Individual Associate Members will also have their names published in the lists in accordance with Article 18 (Data and Lists).
Legal Entity Associate Members refer to any legal entity who has interest in Commercial Arbitration matters and is registered as a Legal Entity Member at NCAC. The qualifying criteria for member registration are:
The Legal Entity Associate Members shall receive information distributed by NCAC, attend events organized by the NCAC at a preferential rate, and have the right to attend trainings organized by the NCAC at a specific arrangement as determined by the Executive Board. The Legal Entity Associate Members will also have their names published in the lists in accordance with Article 18 (Data and Lists).
