Education and Professional Membership

  • Graduated from the Law Department of Peking University (LL.B 1982), China Foreign Affairs University (LL.M 1985), Free University of Brussels (LL.M 1986)
  • A Fulbright Scholar at the Law School of Stanford University (1995-1996) and a visiting scholar at Max Planck Institute (Hamburg 2008)
  • Has been engaged in the teaching and researching of arbitration, private international law, civil and commercial law at China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU) since 1986
  • A former dean of CFAU Law Faculty and Director of the International Law Institute, a visiting professor at both Geneva MIDS programme teaching arbitration in China since 2009 and at the IADS program of Tsinghua Law School teaching International Arbitration since 2013
  • Admitted to practice Chinese Law in 1989 and had been a part-time counsel for over 10 years
  • A Vice-President of the Chinese Society of Private International Law, Member of China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) and Vice-Chairman of the Conciliation Centre of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade

Professional Experience

  • Serving as arbitrator since 1989 and currently being listed in the panel of arbitrators of a number of international arbitration institutions
  • Has been involved in around 500 domestic and international arbitrations under the arbitration rules of CIETAC, BAC, SCIA, HKIAC, AAA-ICDR, SCC, SIAC, UNCITRAL, and CAS as arbitrator, counsel or expert, covering, inter alia, trade, investment, private equity, corporate matters, M&A, share-transfer, construction, property management, licensing, distribution, intellectual property, banking, securities, financial derivative, leasing, sport-related dispute.
  • Has been the ICCA Handbook reporter for China since 2009
